Escalation of Conflict in Yemen and Gaza

Washington has conducted bombings against Houthi targets in Yemen and amidst intensifying tensions, a ceasefire agreement in Gaza is celebrated by the international community. Houthi attacks in the Red Sea raise global trade concerns.

Escalation of Conflict in Yemen and Gaza

The Houthi rebels of Yemen carried out an attack against the American aircraft carrier 'USS Harry Truman' and its escort fleet in the waters of the Red Sea. According to the group's military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, the offensive included the use of cruise missiles and drones, what he described as a 'military operation' aimed at countering alleged hostile actions by the United States in the region.

In a recent statement, the Houthis reaffirmed their support for the 'resistance groups' in Gaza and labeled the Israeli occupation of Palestine as a threat to regional stability. 'This ceasefire is the result of the legendary steadfastness of our people and their resistance in the Gaza Strip,' the group noted in a statement reported by affiliated media. Hamas, for its part, declared that the agreement represents a significant achievement for Palestinian resistance and a turning point in the conflict with Israel.

Since November 2023, the Houthis have intensified their attacks in the Red Sea, primarily targeting vessels they consider linked to Israel. Houthi actions have caused serious disruptions in maritime traffic in this region, one of the most important trade routes globally. The United States led the formation of an international naval coalition to protect navigation in the area, with occasional support from the United Kingdom.

A senior U.S. Department of Defense official denied any damage to vessels or military personnel, although he did not confirm whether the attack actually took place. The situation continues to be closely monitored by international actors, amid growing instability in the Middle East.
