Houthi Rebels Attack US Navy Vessels

The Houthi rebels of Yemen carried out two attacks that lasted eight consecutive hours, according to a spokesperson. They blamed the United States and the United Kingdom for escalating military tensions in the Red Sea region and held them responsible for the repercussions on commercial navigation. This conflict was triggered by a bombing campaign initiated by Washington and London in response to rebel attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, alongside missile and drone launches in support of the Palestinians in Gaza.

In this context, the Houthis claimed to have attacked the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and two US destroyers as they were preparing to conduct hostile operations against insurgent positions in Yemen from the Arabian Sea and the Red Sea. Yahya Sarea, military spokesperson for the rebels, stated in a statement that they launched cruise missiles and drones against the USS Abraham Lincoln, thereby thwarting an operation planned by the enemy.

For its part, no statements have been received from the US Central Command regarding the attack thus far. Sarea also detailed that the second attack targeted two US destroyers in the Red Sea, against which they launched ballistic missiles and drones, successfully hitting their targets. The rebels insist on justifying their actions as part of their right to defend themselves and have vowed to keep operations against commercial navigation active until the aggression against Gaza stops.
